Get the app

Download from GitHub

Open the newest release at the top (the beta is marked Pre-release), expand Assets, and download the file for your system: the setup.exe for Windows, the .AppImage or .deb for Linux, or the .apk for Android.

Windows will probably warn you ("Windows protected your PC"). The installer isn't code-signed. Click More info, then Run anyway.

AppImage: make it executable first with chmod +x Fancy*.AppImage, then run it. Debian/Ubuntu users can grab the .deb instead.

Android will ask about unknown apps. Allow your browser to install apps when prompted, then open the APK.

Connect

Open Fancy Mumble and add a new server with these details:

Address
Port
64738 (the default)
Username
Whatever you want people to call you
Password
The one I sent you

  1. Turn on beta updates

    Settings → Advanced → Beta updates. The server runs the beta, so this keeps your app matched with it. The app updates itself from then on.

  2. Allow the microphone

    Say yes when your system asks. In Settings → Audio, pick your mic and choose push-to-talk or voice activation.

  3. Ask me to register you

    Once you're in, ping me and I'll register your name so nobody else can take it.

Back up your identity

Mumble doesn't use accounts. Your app creates a certificate that proves you're you. If you reinstall or switch computers without it, the server treats you as a stranger.

Export it from the app's certificate settings and keep the file somewhere safe. Import it on any new device.

Mac or iPhone

Fancy Mumble is Windows, Linux and Android only for now. On a Mac, the regular Mumble client connects fine. You'll get voice and plain chat, but not the extras (reactions, chat history, screen share).

Open the server in Mumble after installing, or add it by hand with the details above.

iPhone: there's no good option right now. Talk to me.

Something's not working

It won't connect

Double-check the address (no https://, no www) and that the port is 64738. If it still fails, tell me the exact error.

Nobody can hear me

Check the mic permission in your OS settings, pick the right input device in the app, and make sure you aren't muted or holding the wrong push-to-talk key.

It says my version doesn't match

Make sure beta updates are on (step 2), restart the app, and let it update. Or grab the latest from the button at the top.

I reinstalled and lost my name

Import your backed-up certificate. No backup? Ask me to re-register you.
